Abstract:Hollow concrete blocks are one of the widely used building elements of masonry structures in which they are normally loaded under combined action of shear and compression. Accordingly and due to their structural importance, the present study intends to numerically search for an optimum shape of such blocks.
Classification of Hollow Concrete Blocks: The hollow concrete blocks shall conform to following grade: a) Grade A — These are used as load bearing units and shall have a minimum block density of 1500 kg/m3. Minimum average compressive strengths of blocks shall be as per table.
Fig. 5 Concrete Block Machine 10. ADVANTAGES OF HOLLOW CONCRETE BLOCKS. Highly Durable: The good concrete compacted by high pressure and vibration gives substantial strength to the block. Proper curing increase compressive strength of the blocks. side heat or cold in the house. So it keeps house cool in summer and warm in winter.
Build Bloc blocks are manufactured in a wide range of sizes, strengths and finishes offering total flexibility. A range of high strength concrete building blocks, robust, load bearing units for use in either internal or external walls in a variety of sizes, strengths and finishes offering total flexibility.
Hollow walls built with concrete blocks with full bed mortar joint and without a midheight bond beam: PB1OAT. Three specimens were tested to the axial compressive strength for each type of walls. Based on the ttest results, it was determined that t 4; 5% = > t =
Build Bloc 215mm concrete blocks can be used in a variety of projects from twostorey housing to multistorey developments and commercial buildings. Build Bloc blocks are manufactured in a wide range of sizes, strengths and finishes offering total flexibility.

According to the Masonry Advisory Council, all concrete blocks must have a minimum compressive strength of 1900 pounds per square inch. Many dense blocks are stronger than this. According to Mechanical Properties of Unreinforced Brick Masonry, the average concrete block can withstand 3500 psi, while the average clay brick can withstand 3000 psi.
Mar 17, 2017· The first step is calculate the crosssectional area of the tensile steel reinforcement in the reinforced concrete masonry beam. It is equal to the number of steel bars times the crosssectional area of a single steel reinforcement bar. The second step is .
Hollow block slab is one type of the voided slab which depends on reducing the selfweight by removing the ineffective zone of concrete. Hollow blocks are used to fill portions of the slab thickness; this results in deeper arm for the rebar while saving considerable amount of concrete and hence the own weight of the slab. The
Masonry walls have an endothermic effect of its hydrates, as in chemically bound water, unbound moisture from the concrete block, and the poured concrete if the .
Aug 24, 2014· Five block height stack bonded masonry prism were casted using 200 mm hollow concrete blocks and cementsand mortar(1:6) as shown in fig 3(a). Prisms of size 400 x 200 x 990mm with a joint thickness of 10 mm were used.

Sep 23, 2015· Different forms of hollow concrete blocks. Some of the standard sizes of hollow concrete blocks are as follow. Standard size hollow concrete block – 39 cm * 19 cm * 30 cm; Hollow building tiles – 39 cm * 19 cm * 20 cm; Hollow concrete blocks for partitions – 39 cm * 19 cm * 10 cm; Face thickness of these blocks are normally kept 5 cm or more.
Sep 21, 2007· There is no requirement for the age in the ASTM C90 standard since it is a performance requirement based on the properties when the units are used. The type of concrete in a concrete block is a "zero slump" mix and not a wet cast concrete with curing in the plant. Typically, this type of concrete will be closer to 90% when used.
Standards for sampling and testing concrete masonry units are developed by the technical committees of ASTM International in accordance with consensus procedures. These standards reflect the expert opinion of researchers, concrete masonry manufacturers, designers, contractors and others with an interest in quality standards for concrete masonry.
Compressive strength of concrete is defined as the concrete cube of 150 mm x 150 mm x 150 mm with specified proportion with 28 days curing.
